Great! Have you ever had a cold or a fever? Did you go to school that day? Are you happy? 

Sickness makes you unhappy! Today we’re going to read a story about ‘sickness’. 

1.Cover reading

This is the cover of the picture book. Look carefully, what can you see on the cover? Do you know what is lion dance?Let’s enjoy a video.（播放视频时，教师要适当讲解：Lion dance is an excellent folk art in China. It has been passed down from generation to generation. Each lion is usually performed by two people. One person dances the head and one person dances the tail.）

Great. Look at the boy. How does he feel? Why? （圈标题）

Yes. No school today. It’s the title. 

2.Listen and find (P2-15)

But is he always happy? Now let’s listen to the story and try to find the answer. So is he always happy? Yes, first he’s happy. Then he’s sad. Finally, he becomes happy.（板书happy, sad, happy）So what happens?

3.Read and answer (P2-4)

Look at the boy! (放大表情和额头的汗) He doesn’t feel well. What’s the matter with him? Read P2-4 and circle the key words.

Right. (核对答案，圈划关键词)  He’s ill. （板书ill）The lion dancers are coming and they are going to teach them how to dance today. How does the boy feel? (P3开心的表情)（板书lion dance）

Of course. Even he’s ill in bed, he still feels happy! But Look! (P4表情) 

Why? Why is he unhappy? Because Mum tells him… (P4关键句)

4.Read and complete (P5-8)

Oh, that sounds bad! Does the boy go to school today? Let’s read P5-8 carefully, try to find out what parents say or do and complete the form below. （Tips: 阅读过程中注意关注图片信息并标记关键词句哦！）Are you ready? Let’s check the answers.

So what does his Mum say?

5.Make a dialogue

T: What does Mum do for him? Look at the picture. (P5遮盖对话内容。划call school before she goes to work.)

That’s right. If you were the boy’s teacher and Mum, what would you say on the phone? Can you make a dialogue? Work in two and act it out.

Well done. The teacher and Mum care about Tom（板书）. What about Dad? What does he say or do? Now let’s check your answer.

6.Complete and act

So we know Tom’s father cares about Tom too. But Tom is sad. What does he want to do or say? Please complete their dialogue according to page6,7and 8, then act it out with your partners. Pay attention to their feelings. Now let’s check your answer. Which group wants to try? (Tips: 角色扮演时，语音语调要符合人物当下的心理状态哦~)

7.Listen and order (P9-13)

So the boy has to stay at home today. That makes him sad. What happens then? Now listen carefully and put the following pictures in order. (乱序排放P9-13图片)

Next day, the boy is fine（板书） and Mum says he... (P9)

Yes. If you were him, how would you feel? Why?

That makes sense. Now look at the boy. Is he happy? (P10表情) Why?

Yes, he’s sad.（板书sad）Perfect! But everyone in class is excited. (讲解excited)Excited means very happy.

What’s happening? (P12 门外的影子) What’s this?

Great. Now let’s look at the correct order. Are you right?

9.Read and answer (P14-15)

T: Wow! The lion dancers come! Why? Let’s read P14-15 and find the answer. (圈画关键词)

The lion dancers couldn’t come to school yesterday because… (P15)

Yes. Now look at the boy. (P15表情). How does he feel? Yes, he’s happy because the lion dancers come.（板书lion dance）

10.Retell the story

What an interesting story! Let’s read it together. Now can you retell the story? OK. I give you 1minute to prepare. Share the story with your partners. Go! Now let’s say it together.
