  Teaching objectives:

  At the end of the lesson,students should be able to:

  1. know the general idea and structure of the story, knowing whether Liu Tao、Mike and Wang Bing can play basketball ;

  2. Know how to use ‘can you/he play basketball?’to ask others and answer.

  3. Know about the methods to catch key information with the help of context and pictures;

  4. Realize that we should have a try when we facing difficulties.

  Key points and difficulties:

  Key points:1.know the general idea and structure of the story;

  2.Know the words:basketball/swim/football and sentences: Have a try!/Can you play basketball?Can he play basketball?/Yes, I can./No, I can’t./Yes, he can./No, he can’t/I can play basketball very well;

  Difficulties:Know about the methods to catch key information and ask others about abilities of playing basketball and answer.

  T:today, let’s learn U4 I can play basketball.(揭题)

  Teach:play basketball/Can you play basketball?

  Teach:Yes, I can./ No, I can’t.

  Ss:Good morning

  Ss learn “basketball”

  Ss: Read after the teacher: I can play basketball.

  Ss:传球读单词“basketball”

  “play basketball”

  Ss:Yes, I can. / No, I can’t.

  以猜谜游戏导入课堂,复习旧知“apple(U2)table tennis/ball(U3)”,引出新知“basketball”.

  以动作教授打篮球短语,便于理解,也让学生感受运动乐趣。

  从do的一般疑问句及回答知识点中猜测Can开头的一般疑问句及回答。让学生自己想一想、找一找。

  Step 2 While-reading

  1.Look and ask

  Look,they are Wang Bing/Mike/LiuTao. Can they play basket ball?Let’s ask:

  Let’s talk about Wang Bing first.

  T:Can he play basketball?

  Learning tip: Pictures can help us.

  2.Ask and guess

  T:What about Mike? Can you ask?Can you guess? You can answer with “Yes, he can.”/ “No , he can’t.”

  3.Read and check

  Learning tip:words can help us.

  T:This time, open your books read Picture 2.

  4.Watch and learn

  Watch a short flash about Mike.

  T:Wang Bing says: He can play basketball very well. What does “very well”mean?

  Teach: very well

  5.Look and make a dialogue

  T:What about Liu Tao? This time work in pairs. Look at the picture and make a dialogue. You can be Liu Tao or you can talk about Liu Tao.

  6.Think and learn

  T:Liu Tao can’t play basketball. He is a little bit sad. What would you like to say?

  Teach:Have a try

  Now you are Liu Tao.You are happy. What will you say?

  T: So Never give up, just have a try.Try again and again! You can do it.

  Ss:Can you play basketball, Wang Bing?

  Can you play basketball, Mike?

  Ss:Yes, I can.

  Ss:“Yes, he can.”

  Ss:“Yes, he can.”/ “No , he can’t.

  Ss:非常好/great

  Ss make a dialogue.

  Ss:Come on./You are great.

  Ss learn : have a try

  Ss:Yeah,I can play basketball.

  通过与王兵对话学习第二人称的问句。更便于学生理解使用第二人称询问的情景,为学习第三人称的问句做铺垫。

  提供两点教学建议:读图、看文字来获取关键信息。引导学生关注图片和文字。

  老师带领学生去寻找王兵和迈克是否会打篮球的答案,到讨论刘涛时放手让学生自己寻找答案,并自主选择第二或第三人称进行问答,操练句型。
